Socrates in the City
United States
Приєднався 15 вер 2010
The Greek philosopher Socrates famously said that "the unexamined life is not worth living." Taking this as a starting point, Eric Metaxas thought it would be valuable to create a forum that might encourage busy and successful professionals in thinking about the bigger questions in life. Thus Socrates In The City: Conversations on the Examined Life was born.
Every month or so Socrates In The City sponsors an event in which people can begin a dialogue on "Life, God, and other small topics" by hearing a notable thinker and writer such as Os Guinness or Peter Kreeft. Topics have included "Making Sense Out of Suffering," "The Concept of Evil after 9-11,", and "Can a Scientist Pray?" No question is too big -- in fact, the bigger the better. These events are meant to be both thought-provoking and entertaining, because nowhere is it written that finding answers to life's biggest questions shouldn't be exciting and even, perhaps, fun.

Why America Matters: Socrates in the Studio with Author Michael Wilkerson
Wallstreet businessman turned author Michael Wilkerson sits down with host Eric Metaxas to answer the question of if and why America matters. After his business in Africa was paused during the 2020 Covid shutdowns, Wilkerson’s eyes were opened to the partisan, cultural, and ideological divides in America, and he wondered if the nation could still be good, or even great. Taking an in-depth look at history - from the settlers to Abraham Lincoln and beyond - Wilkerson argues that a new century requires a new vision of American greatness.

Wow. It’s hard to formulate a thought or question after listening except to say Wow!
She tries to hide it, but you can hear in her voice how much that hurt her.
Lies always get bigger when confronted. Eventually, lies get so big they illuminate the truth.
She changed her story many times. She exaggerated her story always. So she seems a bit fake. She was on a show in south korea. She's completely different. Yes north korea is no saint but neither usa is. We know the history of atrocities us did on different countries. They found this girl and started a propaganda by telling the stories again and gain on tv and shows. It seems a little fake .
Alejandro Mayorkas brings them in. What group does he belong to? 👃
It's really sad when a young woman's dream isn't to have a family and kids.
Lol so many people not understanding what feminism is. You guys are lucky we just want equity rather than revenge but that’s what your all frightened of isn’t it. It’s a man’s world what happens when it’s not anymore? Will you be treated the same way you treat women?
Why are American companies allowed to be influenced by a hostile power? Better yet, why are American companies allowed to sell things made in a hostile power? If America cut all ties with China they’d starve in a year.
Women's rights do not intrinsically exist. They are granted by men, lending them their physical power. As we observed in Iran not long ago, women's rights can be taken away overnight. Men offer women this Western society as a part of the offer to entice them to participate in reproduction, with a man of their choice. But men don't have to offer a society like the West, they could just as easily switch to a society like India, Russia, or any other nation. Feminism is a threat to our society once it has disenfranchised a large enough portion of the male population. Look up the changes in male voting behavior over the last decade. Because feminism has shown itself to be about equality in name only. 60% of young men are not participating in dating. Birthrates are already below 1.5. Half the older men had their time with their kids stolen by the sexist family courts. There is constant dehumanization of men in media. They are gaslighting us about historic oppression. Men got the vote just a few years earlier in return for the draft. Single women clearly could have bank accounts and businesses as they could inherit. It's just that the law made married couples one legal entity, so they could hold the men responsible. Technology like the pill, tampons, and washing machines liberated women from their biology. All they did was hold up a sign that men weren't solving their problems fast enough. They should rename feminism to feralism. Because all it does is make them take their clothes of, get a train ran on them, and have a litter alone in the gutter.
Woman want equal pay for equal work. Nothing manly about that. It's called being treated fairly. Feminism has been perverted by guess who? Christian males. ROTFLMAO. So stop your lies.
No. Wrong. Complete lies. Feminism is, and has always been, a project that says women should have an equal say in society. The only perspective through which that's the same as "turning women into men," is one where you believe that only men should have agency, and where agency is what makes someone a man. Women can embrace femininity and still have agency and free will. Women who want the ability to vote, or work, or who want to be treated as an equal, are not trying to be men; they're trying to be treated fairly.
When you have men defining feminism, you understand the need for feminism.
Can I copy paste that??? Great line!!!
@@ArabellaPottery I'd be honored.
@@ArabellaPottery I don’t think a man is defining feminism here. Are you saying have to be a woman to discuss feminism?
That’s a really silly thing to say.
No such thing as my truth. Jesus Christ is the truth. America has walked away from the Word of God. Now for another Biblical truth you will reap what you sow.... And we are.
Your myth is not a real person. And if any god needs the help of humans. It's not a god.
How convenient 😂
@@tolgamatouk7206 Normal people will walk away from the evil you believe in.
@@ArabellaPottery I can only imitate (in horror) what you consider “normal “
All you have to do is dig into the history of who funded the major feminist shift. Just like when you look into BLM it is obviously a scam that doesn't benefit the subjects it claims to benefit, feminism is also a huge scam that does not help the subjects its claims to benefit. And both are heavily funded by organizations that profit off their downfall. Just the most basic amount of research and common since definitely will show you this
He is wrong. Feminism is not about turning women into men. It is about constructing a power structure in which women and the feminine dominate. In which traits that are normative to being considered female are seen as good and those that are normative male as bad. The opposite and opposition of a patriarchal system is not equality, it is a system in which that patriae and s no longer at the head of power. One in which power is not derived from strength or might. Rather one that is from reputation and manipulation. It is the valuing of soft power over hard power.
Only a man would twist feminism so completely. Feminism is about equality for everyone including women. It's not a competition.
It's just about equal pay for equal work. Everything else is BS.
Also wrong. Feminism is abandoning the patriarchal structures and hierarchies, and let women, and men, be who they are. That means women don't have to hide their traditionally male traits, nor do men have to push away their traditionally feminine traits. Men and women will of course still not be the same, only there will be so many shades on each side.
@@TC-cr2oywrong on at least one count. I am a woman and I agree with the post. And how do you know it was a man who wrote that? It could easily have been a woman with the ability to consider and express truth rather than just emote.
Alot of feminazis and bots crying in here😂

Equal pay for equal work. How is that wanting to be a male? Oh right a male lied again...ROTFLMAO!
Imagine if your life ended up in the audience listening to this horseshit.
If you actually listened, you would learn something very valuable.
Who are these psychopaths? 🤔
People who will teach you the truth, if you would sit quietly long enough to listen.
? Did you see same clip? They made sense. Modern feminism has gone down deep end, forcing careers on women who maybe not want it. Women should be free to do what they want to be happy, even if that means being a mother and embrace femininity.
@@jan-willembavinck3650And without the first wave of feminism all we could have done was to be a wife and a mother. That was the top priority and women were shamed if they didn't marry and have kids young. Its all about having a free choice. You can do both, you don't have to choose. Shame on both sides of the political isle for judging the choices we make. The left shames women for choosing to be stay-at-home-moms, but then the right shames women for choosing a career and no children, or choosing both. I don't agree it either of the political extremes.
@jan-willembavinck3650 lol you're beyond help kid
@@jan-willembavinck3650 Please explain to me your perspective of the core tenets of what modern feminism is. Too often, the detractors win the messaging war of a good idea.
Oh my god will you ignorant bigots please shut the fuk up? You obviously have no idea what you're talking about so why are you talking?
From what orifice is this being pulled? Dumbest thing I’ve ever heard, almost.
much of feminism is to not be treated as a 2nd class citizen baby factories or pieces of meat. this channel is a plague.
Two mouthpieces for bullsh*t.

🐟 26. FEMINISM: Feminism is the penultimate evil at present because feminism is based on the misguided assumption that women are equal to (or even SUPERIOR to) men. The only institution more destructive to human society than feminism, is illegitimate governance (see Chapter 22). Equality is non-existent in this transactional sphere. Equality exists ONLY in abstract concepts such as mathematics, and arguably, on the sub-atomic level. Even identical twins are not perfectly identical in every possible criterion. Geneticists have discovered that a pair of so-called “identical twins” share, on average, about ninety-four percent of their genetics by the time they are born. Mothers of such twins can instinctually differentiate between them, since there are always distinguishing features. Unfortunately, for many persons, the objective fact that equality among humans is non-existent, is impossible to accept, since they are afflicted with what is known as a “leftist” mentality. Although a female can exhibit superior traits, skills, etcetera, to some men, a woman can never have AUTHORITY over a man. Therefore, the assertion that women are subordinate to men is based purely on this notion of authority, not on any particular attribute, such as intelligence, wisdom, beauty, physical strength, or artistic talent. Simply because a woman may be stronger or more highly-educated than her husband, for instance, does not give her the right to instruct her master in any way. No true man has ever been attracted to a domineering, bossy female. Truth be told, no true man would ever descend to the level of accepting counsel from any of his subordinates. A man should fully obey his appointed MASTERS (such as his father, grandfather, uncle, employer, or spiritual teacher), and never emasculate himself by submitting to the dictates of a mere female, or any other lesser. Feminist ideology commonly manifests as the desire for women to perform the societal role of the OPPOSITE gender, that is to say, partaking in intrinsically male activities, such as studying at educational institutions, working for a wage, or building business enterprises (or even more preposterously, usurping the position of a national leader or the member of the Holy Priesthood!). Feminism also advocates for preferential treatment of females in institutions which may have traditionally favoured men and/or boys, even when “the tables have been COMPLETELY turned-around the other way”, so to speak. In a nutshell, feminists suffer from the psychological disorder termed “penis envy”, and fundamentally yearn to become males in every conceivable way (sometimes even biologically, despite the incontrovertible fact that transitioning from one gender to the other gender being a physiological impossibility). This aspiration of a person wishing to seize the position of another person, deemed to be of higher value, is a common phenomenon in MALES as well, such as working-class men who consider themselves to be rulers/kings or priests. Every so-called “priest” and every national leader on earth, with virtually no exceptions, is either a worker, a businessman, or even more risibly, a mere female, who is literally stealing the occupation of an authentic guru or a king. Feminists are victims of the SLAVISH mentality which the instigators of that evil, pernicious ideology (Karl Marx and the so-called "Globalist Elite") have always wanted them to be. It is extremely unfortunate that the vast majority of women are unable to see the obvious truth that feminist ideology wants the destruction of women (as well as all society), as can clearly be seen at present. At least it is clearly seen by any decent, holy and intelligent person. Due to feminist indoctrination and lack of proper discipline, as a consequence of an increasingly profane and secular world, modern women have become EXTREMELY debased. The typical woman nowadays is afflicted with bitterness, uncontrolled emotions (especially jealousy), gross immodesty, greed, arrogance, misery, snobbishness, and loneliness due to a false sense of “independence”, with hardly a single noble quality. In those gynocentric societies that are dominated by feminism, men are urged to avoid any UNNECESSARY contact with the opposite gender. Those (heterosexual) males who disregard this sage advice will invariably regret their choices, either after experiencing false allegations against them, the destruction of their families through divorce, or after constant rejection by snobby women. However, let it be made clear: the greatest enemy of males is NOT the opposite sex, but those uxorious “white-knight” so-called “men” who do the bidding of feminist ideologues, since they have far greater power than females, despite being truly pathetic-excuses-for-men. wom•an n. pl. wom•en She who gives “woe” to “man” - therefore “wo(e)man”. "Though I have searched repeatedly, I have not found what I was looking for. Only one out of a thousand men is virtuous, but not one woman!" Ecclesiastes 7:28. “Holy Bible” (New Living Translation). "We must not allow ourselves to be deflected by the feminists who are anxious to force us to regard the two sexes as completely equal in position and worth." Sigismund Schlomo Freud, Austrian Neurologist.
I will stop and say every time I hate this woman she is a sellout and liar and makes life worse for true defectors
I love Berlinski as well, but I think he is so concerned with being above the fray, so to speak, that he keeps himself in the middle of the road. He readily admits when a theory or scientific viewpoint is not tenable. However, when there is research or a theory that he finds sound and reasonable, he will say it's not compelling to him. That seems to me to a bit bias and that he is inclined not to give any credence to the inference of the best explanation. But then, who am i and why would my opinion ne important? I would like your thoughts on this should anyone read and care to respond. Thank you.

Ya I'm good bro. He should've chose repatriation
Fredrick Douglas was also a sexual deviant and devil worshipper. So I wouldn't put him to high on your list
Douglass loved America foremost for its founding principles. He told a New York audience on July 4, 1862, “No people ever entered upon the pathway of nations, with higher and grander ideas of justice, liberty and humanity than ourselves.” The Declaration was for Douglass “that glorious document which can never be referred to too often,” whose “sublime and glorious truths” represent nothing less than “the eternal laws of the moral universe.” Likewise, and in stark contrast to Garrison, he extolled the Constitution as “a glorious liberty document
And hardly a black person alive knows who he is SMH
Frederick Douglass was very afraid to see the blacks migrating to big cities and he was extremely worried about the moral situation. Same with Booker T Washington and Booker T did a great job creating the university that gave people the tools needed to provide a life for themselves and their loved ones and to be a great benefit to their country. Black communities in black families were doing well but then they turned their backs on their Republican roots and decided to go for the Democrats. And I think it was probably like it is today the big cities are voting one way and it doesn't matter how many other communities vote Republican the big cities are groupthink and cannot think any other way. THEN the Democrats got hold of the black community and destroyed the black community and families. I wish black people had more respect and talk more about the black people who did so amazing right after the end of slavery and the black people in Congress the first ones and they were all Republicans.
@@ImaRandomFemale Nobody's voting for trump!! He hates black Americans.
There’s your first mistake-talking to Eric metaxas.
Civil War 2 has already begun; it is currently being fought through the media.
Frederick Douglas saw the United States was a joke
This is not right. It is not even wrong. It doesn't rise to the dignity of an honest error. Douglass talks about how wonderful it was when he got to keep all the money he made working loading and unloading a ship once he escaped slavery. He only left the US and went to England because he was an escaped slave and people were looking to re-enslave him. He returned once benefactors raised the money to buy his freedom. If he saw it was a joke, why return? He criticized the nation, but loved the ideas on which it was founded.
